ALAN BROWNE has returned to training with Sunderland this week, but the midfielder will not be considered for Monday night’s trip to Middlesbrough.

Browne has been sidelined since fracturing a bone in his leg in November, but the Irishman was given the green light to return to light training at the Academy of Light this week.

He will not be considered for Monday’s Tees-Wear derby at the Riverside, but should be able to resume full-contact training with the rest of the first-team squad next week.

Romaine Mundle should also be back in training within the next seven days, having also been sidelined since the autumn.

Tommy Watson, who is the subject of renewed transfer interest from Brighton ahead of Monday night’s deadline, remains on track to return in the next fortnight or so.

“Romaine should return to training next week, which is good news,” said Le Bris. “Browney started this week, although it is non-contact at the minute. He should be okay (for full training) next week. We will have to wait maybe ten days more for Tommy, but he is okay.”

While Le Bris remains hopeful of adding to his squad ahead of Monday night’s transfer deadline, he is nevertheless relieved to have most of his absentees back in the fold ahead of the final three months of the season.

“I am happy,” he said. “If we can have the full team then that would be good news, but it is not often the case in a full season. If for the last three months, we could have the full squad, it would be good. But we will see because it doesn’t work like that.”
